The Lee Playhouse celebrates their production of Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods, Jr." with an extended run. Pull your clubs out of the closet because the Cardinal Golf Club is hosting its Season Opener Scramble, March 28 at 8:30 a.m. The event is open to all players. Family and MWR invites you to join the Fort Lee Army 10-Miler team! The Fort Lee team will be holding team tryouts March through May. There will be male, female and co-ed teams, all are encouraged to come to the tryouts. The tryout schedule is the following: March 14, 9 a.m. (White Bank Classic 5-Miler in Colonial Heights/Registration fee is required); March 28, 8 a.m. (Ukrop's Monument Ave. 10-K in Richmond/Registration fee is required); April 11, 25 & May 2, 8 a.m. (10K tryout at the Fort Lee Post Field House/No registration fee) and May 16, 8 a.m. (Fort Lee Armed Forces Day 8-Miler/Registration fee is required). This year's BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) Easter Extravaganza is bigger and better than ever. Fort Lee starts Spring Break week with the BOSS Easter Extravaganza on Saturday, April 4, 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on the Lee Club Lawn, Bldg. 9009 on Mahone Avenue and Battle Drive. There will be a big Easter egg hunt and the Easter Bunny. This event is open to children, toddler to 12 years old. Please arrive by 12 pm in order to participate in the egg hunt. Total Body Workout is a chance to sample some of the great fitness classes that are offered throughout the year. Total Body Workout sessions are totally FREE! April is national poetry month! In honor of this national celebration, Family and MWR Fort Lee Community Library is hosting an “I’m Coming Home” Poetry Workshop, April 15, 5 - 6 p.m. This workshop will focus on using writing exercises, art, and other tools to create poetry that tells stories about what it means to be a member of the military community; whether you are a Soldier, a Spouse, a child or civilian worker. Pre-registration is advised as space is limited. This is a free workshop. Children 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Family and MWR is hosting its quarterly FREE Newcomers Dinner on Thursday, April 23, 2015 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Regimental Club. The Newcomers Dinner is an opportunity for Fort Lee community members to become familiar with programs and services both inside and outside the gate. It's also an opportunity to win some great door prizes! We have previously given away a Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy Tablet, Xbox game system, Kings Dominion amusement park tickets and more. Fort Lee's Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation will be hosting Traditional Archery Shoot Competitions on *April 25 & 26 and August 30. The competitions will be divided into three divisions and four events. Cost is $10 per adult, $8 per Fort Lee permit holders and $5 per youth(ages 13 - 17 years old). Come out and meet other archery enthusiasts and learn some of their skills. Fort Lee's Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation will be hosting several 3-D Archery Shoot Competitions in 2015. The 3-D archery shoots will be held March 21, *April 25 & 26, May 23, **June 28, July 25, August 29 and September 26. There will be seven divisions of competition on each 3-D Archery Shoot event date. Cost is $10 per adult, $8 per Fort Lee permit holders, $5 per youth(13 – 17 years old) and $3 per cub (12 years old and under). Be a spectator or join in on the fun. Throughout the year, Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation hosts several shoots. Most activities are registered or either non-registered Shoots. In order to attend registered shoots you must be a member of NSSA (National Skeet Shooting Association) or ATA (Amateur Trapshooting Association). Skeet and Trap shoots are registered shoots. Over the next few months, Skeet shoots will take place on April 25 - 26, May 2 - 3, June 6 - 7, July 25 - 26, August 8 - 9 and September 19 - 20. There will be five Trap shoots in the upcoming months; April 26, May 31, June 28, July 26 and August 30. Fun shoots and PVA (Paralyzed Veterans of America)/Disabled Veterans shoots, non-registered shoots, are open to the general public. Fun Shoots are held every 3rd Sunday, October - March. Fort Lee's Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation Center invites you to go Kayaking on the Appomattox River! This little unknown local waters sports treasure is sure to get your heart rate pumping while viewing some of the most historic and natural waterways and lands of the old south. Layout and route of the kayaking trip will be provided by Outdoor Recreation. Participants must register two days prior to the day of the event. The 2015 Kayaking schedule is as follows; April 29, May 13 & 27, June 10 & 24, July 8 & 22, August 5 & 19 and September 2 & 16. All equipment will be supplied at Roslyn Landing upon arrival. Family and MWR invite you to Texas Hold’em Tournaments at the Sports Zone, Building 3650 on C Avenue. Go all in at the Texas Hold’em Tournaments! Tournaments dates are every Tuesday night from now through October 27. There is a $5 registration fee (one time buy-in each night). Registration is 5:45 p.m. on the scheduled day of the tournament. Right Arm Night has moved to the HideAway! The HideAway now hosts Right Arm Night every 3rd Thursday of the month at 4 p.m., starting this month. Right Arm Night is a chance for bosses to bring their "right arm" out to relax and build camaraderie off duty. Drink Specials and FREE snacks will be available with FREE pool for your enjoyment. Child, Youth & School (CYS) Services has several immediate openings in full day child care for preschool age children. The Part Day Preschool program also has openings in both its AM and PM sessions as well as its 2-day and 3-day programs. There are also immediate openings for Full day childcare for Strong Beginnings Pre-K. This is for children ages 4-5. In the Strong Beginnings Pre-K Program, there is an emphasis on kindergarten readiness skills. The teaching methods used will resemble those of a kindergarten classroom. Fort Lee's Family and MWR Auto Crafts Shop is here to service you minor auto needs. This is a self-help auto repair facility that allows authorized patrons to perform minor repairs to their vehicles. There are seven bay spaces, four vehicle lifts, tools and a trained instructor on hand to provide assistance. You can get an oil change, rent bay space & equipment and get your tires changed & balanced. Cost varies per service. The Auto Crafts Shop is located in Building 9035 on Battle Drive. The Family and MWR Fort Lee Community Library invites you to join us every third Monday of the month, 5 – 6 pm for our Read 2 Rover hour with Caring Canines of Richmond. Caring Canines is a volunteer therapy dog group that encourages children’s literacy through interaction with certified therapy dogs. While initially created for children, this activity is open to everyone.  The dogs enjoy being read to, shown picture books, or just being petted.  This is a free program and pre-registration is not required.  The Fort Lee Community Library is located on the 2nd floor of the Army Logistics University, Building 12420. Ready, aim & splatter! Fort Lee’s Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation invites you to play a game of paintball. Rental packages are only $25 for groups of 6 to 9 people. The rental package includes a marker (gun), hopper, CO2 Tank & Fill-ups, mask, loader case & 500 paintballs! All players must be 12 or older to play. Liability waivers must be signed prior to participation. Personal markers are welcome but will be calibrated to field rules.   Paintball is open Monday through Friday, by appointment only. Family and MWR Sports invites you to join our weekly fitness classes. Weekly fitness classes include Aerobics, Boot Camp, INSANITY, Spinning, Spin Intervals, Yoga (Iyengar), Yogaworks (Vinyasa), Zumba, Zumba Toning and Workout With Weights (WWW) in the House of Pain. Classes are generally $4 per class unless otherwise noted. A fitness card may be purchased for most classes. Fitness cards are $20 for a10-class punch card. WWW in the House of Pain is a FREE class, however, you must be at least 18 years of age and complete a Microfit Fitness Assessment prior to attending class. Yoga (Iyengar) is FREE for Active Duty Soldiers and Spouses of deployed Soldiers. Classes may be cancelled due to inclement weather or if minimum class participation levels are not achieved. You must be 16 years of age and an eligible Family and MWR fitness facility patron to attend fitness classes with the exception of WWW in the House of Pain (You must be 18 years of age).
