Celebrate your independence at Fort Lee’s Fourth at the Fort, our annual Independence Day celebration, on Monday, July 4, at Williams Stadium. This event begins at 5 p.m. with music, food and the KidZone (inflatable rides and games for the kids). KidZone tickets and food are available for purchase. The high-energy band, "RNPP" will entertain before the 392d Army Band takes the stage to perform a rousing set of patriotic standards. A spectacular fireworks show will begin at approximately 9:35 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Smoking, personal pyrotechnics, glass and pets are prohibited in or around the event area. Coolers may be no larger than 6” x 6” x 12”. Getting Some Pool TIme
Grab your sunscreen, flip flops and sunglasses and get ready for the pool! The Battle Drive Pool, located just off Battle Drive behind the Lee Club, opens on July 2. Join the Family and MWR Fort Lee Community Library as we commence our annual Summer Reading Program on July 7. This year’s national theme is "Read for the Win". Registration will begin on June 23 at the Community Library. Join us July 7, 10:30 a.m., at Williams Stadium for the 2016 "Read for the Win" Summer Reading Program Kickoff Party. Next, join us July 14, 21 & 28, 10:30 – 11:30 am, at Clark Fitness Center, for our "Read for the Win Story and Craft Hour" (pre-registration is advised). Lastly, celebrate with us as we conclude the "Read for the Win" program at the Lee Playhouse, 10:30 a.m. on August 4, with a special awards ceremony. This program is open to all ages (toddler to adult). Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult for all Read to Win events/activities. All registered participants will receive a free "Read for the Win" t-shirt, instructions for logging books, and a schedule of events at the Community Library. This is a FREE program. Family and MWR is hosting its quarterly, FREE Newcomers' Dinner on Thursday July 14, 2016, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Regimental Club. Fort Lee Child, Youth & School Services (CYSS) will host a variety of fun and engaging activities for the youth throughout the summer. These activities include but are not limited to sports clinics, cheerleading clinics, dance classes and self-defense courses. Family and MWR invites you to bowl for FREE on Monday nights, 5 – 9 p.m., June 6 through August 25 (Except June 27*)! Games and Shoes are FREE. FREE Bowling is open to all ID cardholders on Fort Lee. Army Community Services' Family Advocacy Program hosts FREE monthly Anger Management & Stress Management classes to the Fort Lee community. Anger Management is a one session class that provides attendees with the necessary skills to help evaluate, understand and control their anger. Classes are held 12 - 1 p.m. every first Tuesday of the month. Stress Management is a one session class that helps attendees identify stressors and symptoms of stress, as well as, learn how to select and implement skills to overcome various stressors. Classes are held 12 -1 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month. Participants who complete attendance to a Stress or Anger Management class will receive free admission to one Yoga fitness class held at MacLaughlin Fitness Center. Come out and meet other archery enthusiasts and learn some of their skills. Fort Lee's Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation will be hosting several 3-D Archery Shoot Competitions in 2016. The 3-D archery shoots will be held June 25, July 23 (Norman Cruz Memorial), August 20 and September 24; registration is 9 a.m. - noon. Cost is $10 per adult, $8 per Fort Lee permit holders, $5 per youth (13 - 17 years old) and $3 per cub (12 years old and under). There are seven bay spaces, four vehicle lifts, tools and a trained instructor on hand to provide assistance. Family and MWR Sports invites you to join our weekly fitness classes. Weekly fitness classes include Aerobics, Boot Camp, Core/Cardio, CrossFit (in the Post Field House), High Intensity Training (HIIT), House of Pain, Pilates & Yoga, Spinning, Spinning/Strength, Yoga (Iyengar) and Zumba. Classes are generally $4 per class unless otherwise noted. A fitness card may be purchased for most classes. Fitness cards are $20 for a10-class punch card. House of Pain is a FREE class, however, you must be at least 18 years of age and complete a Microfit Fitness Assessment prior to attending class. Yoga (Iyengar) is FREE for Active Duty Soldiers and Spouses of deployed Soldiers. Classes may be cancelled due to inclement weather or if minimum class participation levels are not achieved. You must be 16 years of age and an eligible Family and MWR fitness facility patron to attend fitness classes with the exception of House of Pain (You must be 18 years of age). The Family and MWR Fort Lee Community Library invites you to join us every second Tuesday of the month, from 5:30 – 6:30 pm for our Read 2 Rover hour with Caring Canines of Richmond. Come out and enjoy an evening of reading with, or showing picture books to, certified therapy dogs from Caring Canines. Caring Canines is an all-volunteer therapy dog group that encourages children’s literacy through interaction with the dogs. Open to all ages, come by and pet the dogs. This is a free program.
