Get healthier and challenge yourself to a new fitness level! Family and MWR Sports invites you to Total Body Workout on April 19 & July 12. Total Body Workout is a chance to sample some of the great fitness classes that are offered throughout the year. Total Body Workout sessions are totally FREE! The April 19, Total Body Workout session will feature INSANITY, Aerobics, Zumba and Yoga, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at MacLaughlin Fitness Center. There will be free giveaways. This year's BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) Easter Extravaganza is bigger and better than ever. Fort Lee ends Spring Break week with the BOSS Easter Extravaganza on Saturday, April 19, 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the Lee Club Lawn, Bldg. 9009 on Mahone Avenue and Battle Drive. There will be a big Easter egg hunt, Easter tattoos and the Easter Bunny. This event is open to children, toddler to 11 years old. Please arrive by 11:45 am in order to participate in the egg hunt. Fort Lee's Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation Center is holding a Disc Golf NIGHT Tournament 7:45 p.m. on April 23 at the Outdoor Adventure Park. Disc Golf is like traditional golf except that players use a flying disc/frisbee instead of a ball and clubs. This is a night time tournament therefore the discs will GLOW in the dark and the catchers will be lit for visibility. This is an 18-hole tournament. Participants must sign up at Outdoor Recreation no later than April 18. Cost is $10 per person. The top 5 score will receive prizes and a small reception. Discs are provided! Fort Lee's Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation Center invites you to the 7th Annual Bowfishing Tournament on Hogs Island Wildlife Refuge, Surry County, April 27. Transportation will be available and will depart Outdoor Recreation Bldg. 15014, 5th St. at 9:30 a.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m. The cost is $10 per competitor. The tournament has four events , Blind Doubles, Family Doubles, Biggest Fish and Heaviest Bag (3 – fish). Participants must have a freshwater fishing license, a picture ID and bowfishing gear with no broad heads. Event location is isolated; bringing a lunch and insect repellant is recommended. Fort Lee's Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation Center invites you to go Kayaking on the Appomattox River! This little unknown local waters sports treasure is sure to get your heart rate pumping while viewing some of the most historic and natural waterways and lands of the old south. Layout and route of the kayaking trip will be provided by Outdoor Recreation. Participants must register two days prior to the day of the event. The hours of operation for Battle Drive Pool are the following: May 24 - May 26 (Sat, 10 am - 8 pm; Sun – Mon, 12 – 8 p.m.), May 27 - June 13 (Mon - Fri, 3:30 - 8 pm; Sat, 10 am - 8 pm; Sun, 12 – 8 pm), and June 16 - September 1 (Mon - Fri, 12 - 8 pm; Sat, 10 am - 8 pm; Sun, 12 – 8 pm). Fort Lee's Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation invites you to learn how to water ski. Water ski lessons/sessions are open to novice to experts. Sessions/Lessons will cover wakeboarding, kneeboarding, barefooting, Two-skis, slalom & more! Sessions/Lessons are available Tuesdays & Thursdays, June 3 - August 28. The time that lessons/sessions are available are the following: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., 1 - 4 p.m. or 5 - 8 p.m. The water ski launch site is the Appomattox Small Boar Harbor. Fort Lee Family and MWR wants to help you float into the summer by learning how to swim. It is never too late or too early to learn how to swim. There will be three class sessions this summer, June 16 - 26, July 7 - 17 and July 28 – August 7. In order to take lessons you must be at least 5 years of age. Leisure Travel Services (LTS) is located in the Regimental Club. LTS offers discounted vacation packages and world class cruises. LTS also assists patrons with finding the best-priced hotel accommodations all over the globe. In addition to providing travel discounts, LTS offers local, regional and national attraction tickets. Fort Lee's Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation Center offers special Horseback Riding sessions throughout the year. The sessions are held twice a month. Riding locations are Dinwiddie County and Battlefield Park. The cost varies per session, from $20 - $50 per rider. Sessions will be held; April 5 & 19, May 3 & 17, June 7 & 19, July 5 & 19, August 2 & 16, September 6 & 20, October 4 & 18, November 1 & 15 and December 6 & 20. Fort Lee's Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation Center offers Biking in Battlefield Park April through September (Scheduled Dates), weather permitting (No Holidays). Learn trails on group rides. Bring your bike, or rent one of ours. Bike rentals are $5 per day! Meet trail guide with the rental bikes at Mahone Avenue Battlefield parking area. The 2014 Biking Schedule is as follows: April 9 & 23; May 7 & 21; June 4 & 18; July 2, 16 & 30; August 13 & 27 and September 10 & 24. Start time is 4:30 p.m., launch time is 5 p.m. This is a FREE program as long as you are accompanied by the trail guide. If you wish to bike through Battlefield Park on your own you will need a Battlefield Park Pass (ages 17 and up), unless you are in PT uniform. The Family and MWR Fort Lee Community Library invites you to join us every third Monday of the month, 5 – 6 pm for our Read 2 Rover hour with Caring Canines of Richmond. Caring Canines is a volunteer therapy dog group that encourages children’s literacy while interacting with certified therapy dogs. This activity is open to children 0 to 12 years of age. The 3-D archery shoots will be held March 22, *April 19 & 20, May 14, June 28, July 26, August 16 and September 27. There will be seven divisions of competition on each 3-D Archery Shoot event date. Ready, aim & splatter! Fort Lee’s Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation invites you to play a game of paintball. Rental packages are only $25 for groups of 6 to 9 people. The rental package includes a marker (gun), hopper, CO2 Tank & Fill-ups, mask, loader case & 500 paintballs! All players must be 12 or older to play. Liability waivers must be signed prior to participation. Personal markers are welcome but will be calibrated to field rules.   Paintball is open Monday through Friday, by appointment only. Family and MWR Sports invites you to join our weekly fitness classes. Weekly fitness classes include Aerobics, Boot Camp, INSANITY, Pilates, Spinning, Spin Intervals, Yoga (Iyengar), Yogaworks (Vinyasa), Zumba, Zumba Toning and Workout With Weights (WWW) in the House of Pain. Classes are generally $4 per class unless otherwise noted. A fitness card may be purchased for most classes. Fitness cards are $20 for a10-class punch card. WWW in the House of Pain is a FREE class, however, you must be at least 18 years of age and complete a Microfit Fitness Assessment prior to attending class. Yoga (Iyengar) is FREE for Active Duty Soldiers and Spouses of deployed Soldiers. Classes may be cancelled due to inclement weather or if minimum class participation levels are not achieved. You must be 16 years of age and an eligible Family and MWR fitness facility patron to attend fitness classes with the exception of WWW in the House of Pain (You must be 18 years of age). The library is open to Active Duty & Retirees, Dependent Spouses, DoD Civilians & Permanent Fort Lee Contractors.
