It's the "most wonderful time of the year" at the Cardinal Golf Club pro shop's annual holiday sale. The Family and MWR Fort Lee Community Library in conjunction with the Kenner Army Health Clinic, the Fort Lee Army Wellness Center and FMWR Community Recreation Division is kicking off the New Year with a good health symposium on January 17. The symposium will be held from 4 - 6 p.m. in ALU, Heiser Hall, 1st Floor Media Room. There will be speakers and information on hand. Among those speaking will be Kenner Dietitian, Kathleen Viau; Optometry, Dr. Lance Daniels; Bull Dental Clinic representatives; Strength Performance Center representatives and more. Active Duty, Family Members and Civilians are encouraged to drop by and learn how to start off the New Year with valuable tips on nutrition and healthy lifestyles. Outdoor Recreation hosts a Wilderness Survival Course on Saturday, January 21, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. A certified instructor will lead an eight-hour instructional course in which students will be trained in the principles of water filtration, primitive fire building, constructing natural shelters, wilderness first-aid and obtaining food int he wilderness. Improve your fitness and meet new parents when you participate in the Strength Performance Center's new program, Stroller Fit. in the Stroller pushers are invited to meet at the Strength Performance Center at 9 a.m. on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (except on those days which fall on a Federal holiday) to depart as a group on a healthy 3.5 mile stroll around the Fort Lee. Learn to perform over 30 suspension training exercises at the TRX Suspension & Rip Training Classes at the Strength Performance Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 12:00 - 12:45 p.m. Suspension Training develops your strength by incorporating movements designed to challenge your back, shoulders, chest, hips, legs and core. Family and MWR Bowling Center invites all youth to join the Youth Bowling League. The Youth Bowling League is 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays, September through May. Youth may sign up at the Bowling Center now. The league starts on September 17 and is open to all eligible family members ages 6 and up. USBC registration fee is $20 and league dates are free. Army Community Services' Family Advocacy Program hosts FREE monthly Anger Management & Stress Management classes to the Fort Lee community. Anger Management is a one session class that provides attendees with the necessary skills to help evaluate, understand and control their anger. Classes are held 12 - 1 p.m. every first Tuesday of the month. Stress Management is a one session class that helps attendees identify stressors and symptoms of stress, as well as, learn how to select and implement skills to overcome various stressors. Classes are held 12 -1 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month. Participants who complete attendance to a Stress or Anger Management class will receive free admission to one Yoga fitness class held at MacLaughlin Fitness Center. Family and MWR Sports invites you to join our weekly fitness classes. Weekly fitness classes include Aerobics, Boot Camp, Core/Cardio, CrossFit (in the Post Field House), High Intensity Training (HIIT), House of Pain, Pilates & Yoga, Spinning, Spinning/Strength, Yoga (Iyengar) and Zumba. Classes are generally $4 per class unless otherwise noted. A fitness card may be purchased for most classes. Fitness cards are $20 for a10-class punch card. House of Pain is a FREE class, however, you must be at least 18 years of age and complete a Microfit Fitness Assessment prior to attending class. Yoga (Iyengar) is FREE for Active Duty Soldiers and Spouses of deployed Soldiers. Classes may be cancelled due to inclement weather or if minimum class participation levels are not achieved. You must be 16 years of age and an eligible Family and MWR fitness facility patron to attend fitness classes with the exception of House of Pain (You must be 18 years of age). The Family and MWR Fort Lee Community Library invites you to join us every second Tuesday of the month, from 5:30 – 6:30 pm for our Read 2 Rover hour with Caring Canines of Richmond. Come out and enjoy an evening of reading with, or showing picture books to, certified therapy dogs from Caring Canines. Caring Canines is an all-volunteer therapy dog group that encourages children’s literacy through interaction with the dogs. Open to all ages, come by and pet the dogs. This is a free program.
